Headshot of Hannah Romain Olson, female anxiety and OCD therapist at Tides Emotional Health (Grand Rapids, Michigan and Chicago, Illinois)

Hannah Romain, LMSW, LCSW

Hi, I’m Hannah! I specialize in compassionate, evidence-based therapy for individuals with anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), intrusive thoughts, panic attacks, phobias, and related challenges. Whether you, your child, or someone you love is impacted by one of these challenges - I’m so glad you’ve found yourself here. You don’t have to go it alone and you deserve treatment that works. Many of my clients reach out when they are struggling to manage these things on their own or when the ways they’ve dealt with these challenges in the past just aren’t working anymore. By tailoring evidence-based therapy to each person’s unique needs and goals, it is my great privilege to help my clients get unstuck from anxiety and OCD and reconnect to the things that matter most.

I specialize in working with:

  • Individuals

  • Parents of children or adolescents with anxiety or OCD

  • New or expecting mothers experiencing anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and/or OCD

We'll work together to explore your goals and uncover what truly matters most to you.

I often help clients navigate things like:

  • Reconnecting with valued activities instead of avoiding due to anxiety

  • Getting unstuck from unhelpful worry and/or compulsive behaviors

  • Living in the present moment instead of ruminating on the past or worrying about the future

  • Becoming less fearful of intrusive thoughts

  • Overcoming fears and breaking free from the cycle of anxiety and panic

  • Reconnecting with themselves, others, and their values

  • Moving away from rigidity and toward flexibility

  • Supporting a child or a loved one with their experience of OCD or anxiety

  • Navigating the challenges of parenting a young person with anxiety or OCD

  • Living more fully instead of living to avoid uncomfortable or anxiety-provoking experiences

  • Building a meaningful life

THERAPIES I SPECIALIZE IN:

Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP)

ERP is the gold standard treatment for OCD and also is highly effective for the treatment of phobias, panic attacks, and similar disorders. Using Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), individuals confront the triggers of their fears or obsessive thoughts and disengage from unhelpful or compulsive behaviors that normally come with feeling anxious or distressed. Many people find that ERP significantly reduces their anxiety, decreases their time spent avoiding things or engaging in compulsions or unhelpful behaviors, and ultimately enables them to live a more full, meaningful life.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is one of the most well-researched evidence-based therapies for anxiety disorders. With the support of a well-trained therapist, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps individuals to understand the relationship between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and create meaningful change in the ways they think, feel, and act. Often, this means feeling less anxious, less controlled by worry thoughts, and more able to participate in the activities that you value most.

Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE)

SPACE is a parent-based treatment program for children and adolescents with anxiety, OCD, and related challenges. This specialized therapy was developed by Dr. Eli Lebowitz at the Yale Child Study Center. Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) treats children and adolescents with anxiety and OCD through a fully parent-based program. This therapy can be highly beneficial for parents of children with separation anxiety, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, fears and phobias, or obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Parents who participate in SPACE often experience a significant improvement in their child’s experience of anxiety and/or OCD and a meaningful increase in their own confidence to support their child as effectively as possible.
